To state the obvious— we are (getting) totally screwed. These terrified folks are reacting poorly in a hurry, and no one knows where this ends.

It is already clear that myriad ill-conceived and improper levers are being pulled, setting in motion additional disastrous unintended consequences. We can pretend that it will be otherwise, but reality will remain.
